On Day 2 of the Republican National Convention, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis served up the red meat.
DeSantis took the stage in Milwaukee and blasted the Biden administration in a speech that party loyalists ate up.
“America cannot afford four more years of a Weekend at Bernie’s presidency,” DeSantis said to rousing cheers inside the Fiserv Forum Tuesday night.
More than willing to engage in cultural issues, DeSantis continued a Republican talking point that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs, promoted by Democrats, are destroying America.
“They stand for DEI, which really means Division, Exclusion and Indoctrination, and it is wrong!” DeSantis declared.
In his eight-minute speech, DeSantis touted his bold leadership in Florida, bragging “the Democratic Party lies in ruins, the left is in retreat, freedom reigns supreme, the woke mind virus is dead and Florida is a solid Republican state.”
DeSantis dropped out of the presidential race after a disappointing showing in Iowa. He blew through $150 million and was hesitant to spar with former President Donald Trump, who labeled him as “DeSanctimonious.”
With Trump watching from the stands, DeSantis called President Joe Biden a “tool” for a leftist agenda that wants “to impose gender ideology on everyone from our infantrymen to kindergartners.”
Florida’s two U.S. Senators — Marco Rubio and Rick Scott — also got stage time on the convention’s second day. Scott faces a re-election challenge from former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried said another six year term for Scott “would be a disaster for women and working families.”
