"The Cupid Dilemma" by April Asher.

Read our interview with April Asher, who wrote "The Cupid Dilemma," down below.

What was your inspiration behind your most recent book?

For "The Cupid Dilemma," it all started with Addy. I wanted a character who didn’t believe in the "construct of love," and yet who had to make a living at it (and did so badly, lol). And then I said to myself, “what if she was the Goddess of Love’s daughter. Now that would be scandal.” Things progressed from there (as you’ll be able to tell from the fact that Addy also has a three-headed dog from Cerberus’ litter).

What does Reading Rainbow mean to you?

To me, Reading Rainbow means diversely celebrating love in all its many forms and shades of the rainbow. It’s uplifting stories that center on love and acceptance, and embracing the beautifully diverse community that surrounds us.

Why do you feel representation of a variety of people is so important when it comes to writing books?

Everyone deserves to be able to pick up a book and find themselves (and their loved ones) right there on the page. Our community is beautiful and diverse, and that diversity should always reflect on the page and in our stories.

Tell us a little more about the book and why you decided to write it.

"The Cupid Dilemma" may have those quirky, rom-com moments (hello, Kiss Cam Date), but beneath all the humor and sassy one-liners, it’s about both romantic love and familial love, and the risk one is willing to take to hold onto it.

What can fans expect from your book?

Fans can expect lots of sexual tension and angst, witty one-liners and snarky banter dressed up with the chaos that follows the Greek gods in a modern New York City setting. Did I mention that Addy has a three-headed dog name Do-Rei-Mi, lol? In The Cupid Dilemma, you’ll also find:

  • Fake relationship (fauxmance)
  • Grumpy (her) vs Sunshine (him)
  • Daughter of Aphrodite (who doesn’t believe in love) & Museless Rockstar (who does)
  • Neighbors to lovers
  • Beanbag ‘boikin
  • Greek god shenanigans
  • And more…

What's up next for you in the bookish world?

I’m currently working on two secret projects that I’m SUPER excited about, but can’t yet talk about.
