There’s a reason cruises continue to resonate, even in a world where travel is faster and more efficient than ever.
It’s not just about where you’re going, but it’s about the pause.
Somewhere between stepping onto the Star Princess and watching the shoreline disappear out of Fort Lauderdale, I felt that pause settle in.
The constant rhythm of everyday life, the schedules, the responsibilities, the need to always be “on,” simply softened. In its place was something we don’t give ourselves often enough: permission to simply enjoy.
And that’s something that my husband and I were looking forward to and have appreciated at every moment.
Modern cruising has evolved far beyond transportation. What once served as a necessity has become an experience, one that is intentional, immersive, and designed to shift your pace.
Aboard the Star Princess, the experience feels intentionally designed to balance indulgence and ease, offering everything from elevated dining and immersive entertainment to serene ocean views, spa spaces, and thoughtfully curated moments that invite guests to slow down, connect, and fully enjoy life at sea.
Within hours of boarding, my husband Sebastian and I found ourselves fully pulled into that rhythm. Conversations came easily, laughter came quicker, and the usual distance between strangers seemed to disappear. There’s something about being at sea that creates instant connection, a shared understanding that, for now, everyone is choosing presence over routine.
That shift extends to how we experience everything else, especially time. Meals aren’t rushed. Conversations stretch. You linger without checking the clock.
The abundance onboard, of food, of options and of energy, isn’t just about indulgence; it’s about removing the urgency we carry with us on land. For a few days, there’s no need to optimize every moment. You simply move through it.
Evenings onboard brought a different kind of energy, one that speaks to how intentionally these experiences are designed.
The ship shifts with you. One moment, you’re casual and sun-soaked; the next, you’re dressed up, stepping into something more elevated. Formal night stood out for us, not just for how it looked, but for how it felt.
Getting ready, taking formal photos together, and leaning into that energy created a shared moment that felt both fun and unexpectedly meaningful. It wasn’t about perfection; it was about participation.
And naturally since it’s Sebastian and I that we are talking about here, this night also led to some quite funny moments and laughter shared with the photographers and we posed in some quite silly ways, smiled and let the flash take over. The result was some funny, beautiful and memorable pictures.
And that’s what has stayed with me most thus far: the energy.
The openness. The willingness, by everyone onboard, to engage, to connect, to enjoy without overthinking it. In a culture that often ties rest to productivity, it was refreshing to experience something that simply allowed space for joy.
We’re only a few days in, and already, that shift is noticeable.
Not dramatic, not permanent, but enough to feel. A reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful part of travel isn’t the destination.
And how amazing is it that Star Princess made it happen for us, even just at the start of this journey, that still has a day to go?
It’s because the ship has reminded us that we get full permission to let go, even for a little while.
