With the Nov. 3 midterms approaching, OutSFL readers remain overwhelmingly opposed to President Donald Trump.
In the fourth OutSFL presidential approval survey of his second term, 91% of respondents disapproved of the job he is doing.
Six percent approved, and 3% were unsure or had no opinion. The result is almost identical to the previous survey in April, when 91% disapproved and about 8% approved.
The timing gives the findings added weight. Trump is not on the Nov. 3 ballot, but his party’s candidates are. Historically, presidents with lower national approval ratings have seen their parties lose more House seats in midterm elections.
Calls to vote and change who controls Congress ran through the written comments. Other respondents urged impeachment or removal, while some raised concerns about democracy, LGBTQ rights and immigration. Those comments offer a sense of what is on readers’ minds, though they were optional responses and do not show how all survey participants plan to vote.
“We need the Gay community to GET OUT AND VOTE!” one respondent wrote. “Traditionally, the community can't seem to be bothered... well ...this is the most important election of our lifetime!”
That call for turnout echoes a point Joe Saunders, executive director of Equality Florida Action PAC, made in an August interview with OutSFL. His group is working to break Republican supermajorities in the Florida Legislature and elect more LGBTQ lawmakers. “I really believe we have not scratched the surface of what’s possible in the assertion of our community’s political power,” Saunders said.
Another reader wanted more from Trump’s opponents: “Democrats need to become the solution rather than the prosecutors against MAGA/Trump.”
The survey did not ask how readers plan to vote. It also reflects the views of readers who chose to respond, rather than a representative sample of South Florida voters. What it does show is striking consistency: disapproval stood at 90% in both of OutSFL’s 2025 surveys and 91% in each of the two surveys conducted this year.
Readers’ assessments of the personal impact of Trump’s policies were similarly negative. Eighty-seven percent said they had been affected negatively, compared with 85% in the previous survey. Seven percent reported a positive impact, 5% said the policies had no impact, and 1% were unsure or had no opinion.
“I hate how he has abandoned Ukraine and persecuted my immigrant and transgender neighbors, and my colleagues who provide abortion care,” one respondent wrote.
A supporter offered a different assessment: “He is doing what he said he would do. ICE enforcing and removing.”
Breakdown by Issue
Immigration remained Trump’s strongest issue among respondents, though only 11% approved of his handling of it. Approval on every other issue surveyed was in single digits:
- Transgender rights: 7%
- Gay, lesbian and bisexual rights: 6%
- Economy: 6%
- Foreign policy: 5%
- HIV-related health care: 5%
Foreign policy drew 93% disapproval, the highest of any issue in the survey, as the U.S. war with Iran entered its seventh month. The economy followed at 92% as other polls elsewhere have shown continued concerns about tariffs, inflation and affordability. This survey, though, did not ask readers which events or policies shaped their ratings.

OutSFL collected responses through an online SurveyMonkey survey from Sept. 18 to Sept. 26. A total of 239 people answered. Participation was voluntary, so the results describe those who responded; they are not representative of all OutSFL readers or South Florida voters.
