At a time when division feels louder than ever, a 5K in Wilton Manors is aiming to bring people back together — one step at a time.
The Front Runners will host their annual Love Wins 5K on Sunday, May 3 at 7:30 a.m. at Richardson Park in Wilton Manors.
The 3.1-mile race will take participants through the Wilton Drive entertainment district, drawing runners and walkers of all backgrounds and ability levels for a morning focused on community, fitness, and connection.
Organizers say the event is designed to celebrate the diversity of South Florida while promoting a message of inclusion, kindness, and unity.
“This sport has always had the ability to bring people from diverse backgrounds together,” said Eric Runyan, one of the event’s organizers. “We expect this to be a great athletic event and fun celebration as well as an opportunity to bring the wider community together in a spirit of inclusivity — especially at a time of so much division in society."
The race is open to participants of all experience levels, from competitive runners to casual walkers. In addition to the race itself, the event serves as a gathering point for the local LGBTQ community and its allies. There will be cash prizes for top finishers and age group awards.
“Love wins!” Runyan added.
The Love Wins 5K begins at Richardson Park, located at 1937 Wilton Drive.
Front Runners meets thrice weekly on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale; Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. at the Galleria Mall (behind the Bank of America) in Fort Lauderdale; and Sundays at 6 p.m. at the Pride Center in Wilton Manors.
