Makeup that is just dramatic enough. Wigs without a hair out of place. Cornering the market on sequins. South Florida queens make it look easy, but drag is an art. That was proven when Aquaplex hosted The Art of Drag, benefitting the Art and Culture Center Hollywood.
In addition to the über talented regular performers, three guest queens came in for the event. To say they slayed would be an understatement. Erick Eldridge of the Seminole Hard Rock, The Center’s Secretary John Mabry, and Eva Taylor owned the room as they performed everything from Taylor Swift to Diana Ross.
“Art of Drag was sensational,” Jennifer Homan, president of The Center, said. “Erick Eldridge, John Mabry and Eva Marie wowed the crowd along with the Aquanette dancers and fabulous host Amanda Austin. Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a special night for the Hollywood Art and Culture Center.”
The Center is a key supporter of Hollywood’s LGBTQ community and has grown over the decades into the architecturally distinct presence it holds today.
The show was hosted by Amanda Austin, who made all three guest queens feel welcome, but they also came with their own cheering sections. At times the crowd was downright raucous, and the dollars were raining down.
Money raised supports The Center’s programs, including performing arts.
