His business is tucked away in a corner of Wilton Manors but his impact on the community is outsized. Carlos Rodriguez, owner of The Cabanas Guesthouse and Spa, died on Aug. 22.
The business announced the news on social media, saying, “Carlos wasn’t just the owner and operator of Spa Cabanas — he was the heart of it. For years, he provided a wonderful amenity to our guesthouse services, but more than that, he shared his laughter, warmth, and joy with everyone he met.”
Rodriguez was born and raised in Miami Beach and attended Miami Beach High School.
Friends say he made The Cabanas more than a standard LGBTQ resort. His personality and passion created a warm atmosphere of relaxation, health, and grooming.
“Carlos brought brightness into our days, and while we will miss him dearly, we choose to remember the smiles, the laughs, and the good times he gave us,” his friends at The Cabanas said.
Many people in the Wilton Manors community shared their fond memories.
“I was walking past The Cabanas last winter and I had no idea who he was,” Ralph Acquasanta posted. “I started asking him questions about the place. He could not have been kinder and sweeter to a total stranger. That’s the mark of a good human.”
John Duke said, “This makes my heart heavy, but it was a pleasure seeing him and knowing him, for he had such a kind spirit and joyful soul he will be missed greatly!”
