The Art of Cinema: Three Upcoming Films that I Can’t Stop Thinking About | Opinion

There’s something chaotic about being a film fan right now, at least for me.

Because there are some that I am extremely excited to experience on the big screen.

After years of streaming comfort watches, nostalgia reboots, and cinematic universes expanding faster than my schedule, the big screen is officially calling us back, loudly, confidently, and with the kind of titles that feel like old friends pulling you into mischief.

For me, three films are standing at the front of that line: Scream 7, The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Disney’s live-action Moana.

They are different corners of storytelling, sure, including horror, space opera, and island magic themes, but that’s exactly the point.

This year feels like a celebration of the movies that raised us, saved us, entertained us, and reminded us why stories matter in the first place.

Ghostface, But Make It Legacy Horror

Scream 7: February 27, 2026

Let’s start with a classic slasher franchise, ok?

The Scream movies are returning with Scream 7, and Sidney Prescott back in the picture. It feels like the cinematic equivalent of seeing your favorite high school rival stroll back into town, older, smarter, and ready for round seven.

There’s a thrill in knowing the OGs are returning to be a part of the movie, and that a new killer is looming. It seems like the story isn’t just surviving the meta-horror moment, but that it’s evolving in ways fans have begged for.

It’s horror with history, and it shows so much promise for those of us that love the Scream movies.

Space Cowboys and Found Family

The Mandalorian and Grogu: May 22, 2026

On the opposite end of the galaxy, The Mandalorian and Grogu is taking the leap from streaming comfort to full theatrical spectacle.

I’ve spent years watching these two navigate danger, fatherhood, destiny, and snack breaks, especially in Grogu’s case, and the idea of seeing that bond unfold on a massive screen? I’m feeling those goosebumps for sure and cannot wait to see this one!

Sci-fi is at its best when it’s just talking about love and loyalty in the messiest places, and Star Wars knows exactly how to deliver that kind of magic.

The Ocean Calls Us Back

Moana (Live-Action): July 10, 2026

Then there’s Moana, making her live-action debut and reminding us that stories rooted in culture and courage never lose their shine.

The original animated film was a love letter to adventure and self-determination, and the new one promises richer textures, deeper character work, and visuals lush enough to make you wish you’d booked a flight somewhere tropical.

In a world that often feels exhausting, Moana’s quiet conviction, that we can change our course, still lands with power and heart, especially for this island girl from Puerto Rico.

Why These Movies Matter (And Why I’m So Excited)

If you look at these three together, there’s a pattern: chosen family, resilience, legacy, and daring to grow past the version of us that once felt safe.

Maybe that’s why these upcoming 2026 films feel like a cinematic turning point. We’re not just watching franchises, but we’re watching eras reclaim themselves.

And honestly, for those of us who came of age quoting horror lines, obsessing over space battles, or singing along to oceanic anthems, this year feels like a reunion tour for the inner kid, the inner nerd, and the inner dreamer, all in one.

It’s fandom as self-care, storytelling as survival, and movie theaters as community spaces again.

So yes, I’ll be there for sure, popcorn in hand, seat reclined, and with my heart full, ready to scream, cheer, and sing along my way thanks to these three films, ones that remind us of who we are and who we still get to be.

And this helps us remember that at times happiness comes from disconnecting ourselves from the outside world and enjoying something truly magical.
