Karla Sofía Gascón is the star of Netflix’s “Emilia Pérez,” a musical crime thriller. “Emilia Pérez” received 13 nominations, breaking the record for the most nominations in a non-English film. Gascón is the first-ever transgender actress to receive an Oscar nomination.

Emilia Pérez is a former Mexican cartel boss who enlists the support of Rita, a lawyer played by Zoë Saldaña, to help her fake her own death, so she can access gender-affirming care and live her life as a trans woman.

Gascón will compete for the Best Actress award alongside “Wicked’s” Cynthia Erivo, “The Substance’s” Demi Moore, “Anora’s” Mickey Madison, and “I’m Still Here’s” Fernanda Torres.

Demi Lovato Shares Love To Trans, Nonbinary People

The famous singer, songwriter, philanthropist, and actress Demi Lovato came out as nonbinary in May 2021 using they/them pronouns, but later re-adopted she/her pronouns because it was “absolutely exhausting” educating people about pronouns and being nonbinary.

“I just got tired. But for that very reason, I know that it is important to continue spreading the word,” said Lovato.

Currently, Lovato’s Instagram lists their pronouns as they/them/she/her.

The exhausted Lovato responded to President Donald Trump’s anti-trans executive order on his first day of office with a message of love and support via Instagram.

The anti-trans executive order is a direct attack on the LGBTQ community. It proclaims that the United States will recognize only “male” and “female” as genders, and that these are “unchangeable.”

“If you are trans or nonbinary like me, please know that I see you, I feel you, I am with you. You are validated, you are loved, and you are not alone. No one can take away our identities and no one can tell us who we are or aren’t,” said Lovato. “We will get thru this. I love you.”
