Broadway Fort Lauderdale brings us the most talked about show on Broadway, “Funny Girl,” and there’s a reason there’s so much buzz about this revival, and it’s not just the Broadway cast.
Queer comedians are funnier than they’ve ever been. From Wanda Sykes to Matteo Lane and Jessica Kirson to Jerrod Carmichael, they keep the non-stop laughs coming. There’s little doubt that Fortune Feimster is one of the funniest of the bunch. With two hilarious, full-length Netflix specials to her name – 2020’s “Sweet & Salty” and 2022’s “Good Fortune” – numerous acting roles, and a brand new live stand-up comedy tour, aptly titled “Live, Love, Laugh,” there’s plenty of Fortune to go around. A genuinely kind and thoughtful soul, Fortune made time for an interview before heading out on tour.
Shelby Mahurin wanted to include everything she loves in books such as a masquerade ball, enemies to lovers, a vampire love interest, and more in "The Scarlet Veil".
It’s possible to dismiss the problems with “Down Low" (Sony) by saying it’s gay actor-turned-director Rightor Doyle’s feature-length directorial debut and he’s just inexperienced. Or maybe that it’s hot gay actor Lukas Gage’s (“The White Lotus,” season one) first screenplay co-write on what is essentially a vanity project. But because of the dedication of the lead and supporting actors, the problems aren’t insurmountable.
Men Who Dance returns to the Amaturo stage at The Broward Center on Nov. 25 and 26 with a line-up of dancers from around the globe. The dance event delves into the exploration of gender roles against the backdrop of social, cultural, geographic, political, and religious stereotypes, labels, and psyche. An explosion of artistic expression meant to celebrate, challenge, deconstruct, and redefine concepts and notions of “masculinity.”
Florida Grand Opera (FGO), in its 82nd continuous season, features three of the lyric stage’s most popular titles. United by the universal appeal of their very different scores, grounded in the lives of real people, and steeped in romance both gritty and glittery, this trio takes audiences from the elite salons of Paris to dusty Sicilian towns before returning to Paris’ chilly garrets.
