For Axel Beach Hotel in Miami, inclusivity in the business is best described by a famous Lady Gaga lyric.
“We were born that way,” Axel employee Efrain Castro said. “We did not design a hotel to then add inclusive values.”
The brand was created in 2003 as the only hotel created for the LGBTQ community in the world, Castro said. The Miami location is the first Axel Hotel in the U.S.
Castro said winning the award is an encouraging sign that their work to support the LGBTQ community is being noticed.
“It represents not only recognition by experts or judges within our community, but by the people who actively engage with our work,” Castro said. “It's a meaningful validation that the effort and thought put into our work are recognized and valued by those who matter most: the readers.”
