Miami street art has been a part of the cultural fabric of Miami and has been a driving force in reinventing the Magic City over the past decades.
As one of the early luminaries of the Miami street art movement, David Le Batard, known as “Lebo,” was an enduring figure and inspiration to countless artists. He pioneered an innovative art style he playfully called, "Postmodern Cartoon Expressionism." Known for his “Welcome to Miami Beach” mural on the Arthur Godfrey Road and collaborations with many commercial brands, Hotels, and even the Getaway ship from Norwegian Cruise Lines, Lebo’s art is an embedded thread of Miami culture. He was instrumental in the explosion of the graffiti scene, pioneering the mainstream merging of street art with galleries, creating mainstream appeal and legitimacy of the art form.
Le Batard lost his battle with cancer in August 2023, he was 50 years old.
