Leigh Ann Henderson is woven into the fabric of Wilton Manors. The city manager has been with the city for 25 years in one capacity or another. While her work is appreciated here, she recently got some serious love from her contemporaries.
The Florida City and County Management Association (FCCMA) gave her their Professional Management Excellence award. The honor recognizes “an outstanding and long-term local government administrator who fosters representative democracy by enhancing the effectiveness of local elected officials and by consistently initiating creative and successful programs.”
A video filled with plaudits from city staff, police officers, and citizens was played. WMPD Det. Dave Turner celebrated his friend, saying, “Leigh Ann and I have been friends since second grade. So [this] is no surprise. Congratulations.”
Dave Archacki, Wilton’s former utilities director, said he hired her when she was in college. “I recognized her potential from day one.”
Her predecessor, Joseph Gallegos, also saw her potential. “When I needed a new city manager, she was my first best and only choice.”
The entire dais and audience gave her a loud and heartfelt standing ovation.
