After literally stomping the RuPaul’s Drag Race runway during Season 18, Discord Addams was an instant fan favorite.

Whether it was a beyond hilarious recreation of The Pope (watch it, you’ll immediately get it) or her sheer tenacity and belief in her drag, Addams does not leave what she is thinking up to chance. Now, Addams is speaking her mind in a brand new WOW Presents Plus show, the aptly titled FK THIS with Discord Addams. I sat down to catch up with one of Florida’s favorite dolls and we chatted about Season 18, her talk show inspirations, and why right now, speaking your mind is the most crucial thing you can do.

Congratulations on the new WOW Presents Plus show! I don’t think anyone is more excited than you are, especially after such a phenomenal year!

I mean, I was over the moon. To go from filming a Transformations episode with James St. James back in 2016 to now having my own show in that very same basement — it’s mind-blowing. It’s absolutely wild.

Tell me about FK THIS with Discord Adams. What can viewers expect?

I wanted it to feel like those old MTV shows. I wanted it to be the gay answer to Jon Stewart or John Oliver—a very gay, very campy version of The Daily Show. It’ll be educational, but it’ll also be funny and completely uncensored. I can really say whatever the fuck I want. People are going to learn something, but they’ll also leave entertained and want to come back for more.

We have plenty of shows that are just fun, and they should exist. But let’s teach the kids something, too.

So we lose Stephen Colbert, but we gain Discord Adams.

Exactly!

Not everyone gets an opportunity like this. I think you have to have a certain amount of charisma to be singled out after your season and handed your own WOW Presents Plus show. What’s it like to be plucked from the cast and suddenly be fronting your own series?

It feels correct. It feels like this was supposed to happen. The fans have been saying every single day, “We want more Discord. We want more Discord.” They were begging for more, and now I’m here to give it to them.

I was one of the stars of Season 18, so we might as well keep the train rolling.

I don’t think it’s just “one of.” I think you were the dark horse who became the brightest star in that workroom.

Who would you love to have as a guest? I’m sure we’ll see some familiar drag faces, but who are your dream guests?

I’d love to co-host an episode with Darlene (Mitchell). I think we could have that kind of Trixie and Katya chemistry where we’re constantly bouncing off each other. That would be an absolute blast.

Outside of drag, though, my dream guest is Rosie O’Donnell.

Why Rosie?

I love her. She was the first talk show host I was ever completely obsessed with. I’ve looked up to her my whole life. She’s outspoken, fearless, and she really embodies that “fuck this” attitude. I admire that so much.

What has life been like since the world discovered who Discord Adams is? Your corner of Florida certainly knew you, but now the entire world does.

It’s interesting because I don’t feel any different. I still feel like the exact same Discord I was three years ago.

The biggest difference is that people recognize me now. I’ll be buying a sub and someone will stop me. That’s the surreal part.

I still navigate the world the same way. I still talk online as if only three people are listening, and then I remember I’m actually being watched by the entire internet. I definitely make more people mad these days.

That has to be surreal — getting recognized at the grocery store or the movies.

It really is. And it happens a lot more often than I ever expected.

You mentioned Stephen Colbert earlier, and we’re seeing so many outspoken voices come under pressure right now. I know you’re politically engaged, but you’re also very socially motivated. What does it mean to have a platform where your voice can be heard right now?

It’s really nice to have a show where I’m allowed to say whatever I want.

World of Wonder is giving me this platform; they’re not censoring me. They’re letting me choose the topics, have free-flowing conversations, and express my thoughts without someone saying, “Nope, you can’t talk about that.”

That feels especially important when you see people like Stephen Colbert getting attacked or Jimmy Kimmel facing backlash. So many people seem afraid to speak right now.

Meanwhile, I’m over here saying, “Let me talk more, baby.”

I hope this show reaches a huge audience because I really think it’s important to have a queer answer to all of these news shows. John Oliver is probably the closest thing we have, and he’s still a straight man.

I’ll leave you with this. You mentioned James St. James, who is an absolute icon in the world of nightlife and a creative genius. When you watch that old Transformations video today, does it feel like you’re looking at a completely different person?

Not at all. That’s still me.

I think one of my superpowers has always been that I’ve been incredibly confident in who I am. When I watch that video, I think I’d probably have the exact same conversation today.

They’re still my beliefs. They’re still my opinions. It’s just a younger version of me.
