Fort Lauderdale softball team, The Silverhawks, won the Legends “D” Division title at the Gay Softball World Series in Las Vegas last month.
“We added a few players and built an incredibly talented group of athletes,” Silverhawks coach Ed Vincent said. “We had a rocky start to our Spring Season, but we fixed our issues and became the team to beat.”
This is the fourth World Series medal the Silverhawks have earned. They placed first in 2019 and took third in 2018 and 2022.
This year, they scored 128 runs while only giving up 40 to opponents throughout the October tournament. Nearly every game in the Legends “D” Division, which features players 50 years or older, was won by the Silverhawks by more than 10 points.
Other Fort Lauderdale teams made strong showings alongside the Silverhawks. Glitterati earned fourth place in the “E” Division, Hunter’s Hurricanes placed fourth in the “D” Division and Elevate earned fourth place in the Legends “C” Division.
Vincent said winning the title came down to improved skills and strong team trust.
“We aren’t just teammates, we’re friends and family,” Vincent said.
