The competition just got a little hotter for South Florida softball teams.
Hurricane Showdown, hosted by LGBTQ softball league South Florida Amateur Athletic Association, is a weekend-long tournament that welcomes teams of varying skill levels.
This year’s event in Fort Lauderdale takes place Nov. 29 to Dec. 1 and marks its 30th anniversary.
It costs $450 per team to play on Saturday and Saturday, but you’ll save $100 by signing up for all three days.
The tournament classifies teams into different divisions in order to make play fair and safe, Oscar Rosado, Hurricane Showdown co-director, said.
Divisions C, D and E require players to register with an NAGAAA rating, which is an assessment of an individual’s skill level. Those who score higher will be placed in the C division, while those on the lower end will compete in E.
A and B are the most advanced divisions and do not require players to register with an NAGAAA rating.
Last year’s tournament saw over 3,000 people, including players and fans, but Rosado said he hopes to see more growth.
“It’s our 30th anniversary, we want this to be one big party.”
