One in three women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, and the LGBTQ community is disproportionately impacted. Thankfully, for more than 15 years, local nonprofit No More Tears has worked to support victims and turn them into survivors by providing holistic services to help get them back on their feet and live a life free of violence.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, No More Tears is hosting a celebration of survivors at the elegant La Fuga at the Shorebreak Hotel, 2900 Riomar St. in Fort Lauderdale, on Oct. 19 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

“Domestic violence doesn't discriminate — it impacts people no matter their wealth, religion, education, race, gender identity or sexual orientation,” says Somy Ali, the founder and president of No More Tears and a survivor herself. “I’m proud that since we were founded 15 years ago, we have helped more than 42,000 people in domestic violence and human trafficking situations.”

Guests will be treated to two drink tickets and sumptuous passed bites during this fundraiser celebrating and supporting survivors of domestic violence. Not only will attendees be able to enjoy the relaxed ambiance of this Fort Lauderdale Beach hotel, but also partake in an exciting raffle and meet long-time volunteers and strong survivors who have benefitted from No More Tears. The nonprofit also has news to share of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities for the holiday season.

As a complete volunteer run nonprofit, guests can be assured that proceeds from their event ticket (as well as raffle entries!) will go directly to paying for legal representation, doctors appointments, therapy, rental assistance, groceries, and many more necessities to starting a new life.

Local businesses have generously donated raffle items for the event, including Temple Street Eatery, La Mexicana, Rebel Wine Bar, Autumn Markley hair salon, Float8, 4 Weeks 2 the Beach, Dr. Steiger, Skincare by Adriana G, Steiger Facial Plastic Surgery, and more.
