Looking for a way to celebrate Pride, ground your body, and support your community all in one evening? Ananda Yoga is hosting its 4th Annual Donation-Based VinYin Yoga Class this Friday, June 13 at 6 p.m.
Led by instructor and studio owner Erika Scribner, the 75-minute all-levels class blends the strength-building flow of vinyasa with the meditative stillness of yin yoga. Donations benefit Compass LGBTQ+ Community Center, Palm Beach County’s largest LGBTQ+ nonprofit.
“Yoga means to unite, unite with oneself and to unite with others and that is what is created, unity within the community,” Scribner said. “That’s exactly what Compass does too within their doors, allowing people to feel seen whether it’s through their teen programs or through HIV testing, just creating a safe space without judgement.”
Scribner’s connection to both yoga and Compass runs deep. A decade into her sobriety journey, she credits yoga as a life-saving practice that helped her recover from addiction and depression. She now offers yoga not just as fitness, but as medicine.
“Yoga gave me my life,” she said. “It allowed me to see the world in color.”
She says it’s that healing and sense of connection she wants to share with others, something reflected in the studio’s name.
“Ananda means bliss, happiness, ease and that's what I want the space to be, and it truly is,” Scribner said.
And yes, there are unicorns. Every year, Scribner designs a sticker for the class, a meditating unicorn that says “You Are Magical.” It’s her way of honoring resilience.
