Prepare for a tapestry of emotions and history as FAU’s University Galleries, in partnership with Compass Community Center, showcases the AIDS Memorial Quilt exhibit.

The quilt is a tribute to the over 700,000 lives lost to AIDS-related causes. The exhibit is running Dec. 1 (World AIDS Day) to Dec. 13 at FAU as well as Compass in Lake Worth.

The university invites the community to attend, reflect, and explore the powerful narratives stitched into this historic work, which has been a cornerstone of AIDS awareness and activism since its inception in 1987. Whether you’re a history buff, art enthusiast, or someone touched by the AIDS epidemic, the quilt is a must-see testament.

“This year’s theme, ‘Weaving Stories, Breaking Stigma,’ highlights storytelling’s role in raising awareness and reducing stigma. The Quilt tells the stories of those impacted by HIV/AIDS, weaving together panels created by loved ones from around the world,” reads a press release from Compass. “It serves as a reminder of the importance of education, testing, and the fight against stigma.”

The University Galleries are located 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, FL 33431. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.
