Founded in 1988, Compass has remained a leader in HIV prevention and a vital organizer of information and referral services for gays and lesbians seeking assistance in living empowered, healthy, and productive lives.
Compass remains the sole provider of crisis and care services for people living with HIV through the Palm Beach County Department of Health, offers HIV case management services to connect newly diagnosed individuals to care, and continues its proud tradition as an expert in HIV prevention. It is the heart of South Florida’s LGBTQ+ community.
Lety Gonzalez (Latisha Gonzalez), Marketing Coordinator at Compass Community Center, told Out South Florida:
"Our mission is at the center of everything we do: engage, empower, and enrich. We are proud to host the largest display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt on the East Coast and lead major events like Palm Beach Pride and the Stonewall Ball, which bring visibility, joy, and justice to our community. With dedicated staff, volunteers, and partners, Compass offers a welcoming home for advocacy, healing, and connection."
Compass is more than just a community center — it’s a family, always ready to walk alongside you. Lety adds:
"You belong here. Whether you're finding your voice or just showing up as your fabulous self, you are part of something bigger. Remember: if life gives you glitter, throw it everywhere."
Out South Florida is proud to be a community partner with Compass. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected South Florida where everyone can thrive authentically. In these times of uncertainty, repression, and hate, it is more important than ever to have spaces where all people are safe, supported, and celebrated.
