An upcoming show featuring drag icon Lady Bunny in Wilton Manors has been canceled following accusations of antisemitism tied to her social media posts about Israel and Palestine.

Locally, the famed drag queen is becoming more known for hot takes and controversial opinions than her comedy and performances.

Lady Bunny had been scheduled to appear alongside local artist, comedian, and producer Peter Bisuito for a new edition of his “Naked Guy Crocheting” franchise, a recurring comedy and fundraising event that benefits dog rescue efforts.

The controversy centered on Lady Bunny’s social media activity, which critics described as overly anti-Israel and, in some cases, antisemitic. Drew Tabatchnick, vice chair of the Broward County Jewish Federation, said the posts contribute to a climate of rising antisemitism.

“At a time when antisemitism has sharply increased worldwide, many Jewish patrons are especially sensitive to language and messaging that appears to single out or vilify Jewish identity under the guise of political activism. For many of us, this no longer feels like abstract politics; it feels personal and exclusionary.”

Tabatchnick said he had hoped to sit down with Lady Bunny to discuss the impact of her posts and why many members of the Jewish community found them hurtful.

This is not the first time Lady Bunny has generated backlash in South Florida.

In 2024, she was named National Icon Honoree by Pridelines despite criticism over her repeated attacks on then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the presidential campaign.

At the time, then-Executive Director Edward Summers told OutSFL she was being honored “not for her political stance, but for what she’s done for our community.”

During the gala, Lady Bunny largely avoided national politics but drew criticism from some attendees over comments directed at local drag performers. Performer Tiffany Fantasia later posted an emotional video on Facebook discussing the experience. Summers subsequently issued two public apologies.

Bisuito had promoted the event as a fundraiser for dog rescue programs. Prior to the cancellation, he defended hosting Lady Bunny while emphasizing a message of compassion and inclusion.

“I use Naked Guy Crocheting as a platform to satisfy my two biggest passions: making people laugh and dog rescue,” Bisuito told OutSFL. “Dogs are the most unconditional animal in the world. They love you despite what you look like or how much money you make. They don’t care what religion you are, and they certainly don’t care about your political views.”

He continued: “If you do not agree with my choice of guest, I will respectfully understand and not judge your decision anymore than I want you to judge mine.”
