Gun control activist David Hogg was elected as Vice Chairman of the Democratic National Committee at the party’s reorganization last weekend.
Hogg is a survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which claimed the lives of 17 people. He helped form March For Our Lives, a student-led organization that stages demonstrations in support of gun control legislation.
Flanked by Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried, Hogg delivered a fiery campaign speech to party loyalists.
“Are you ready to go on the offense?!” Hogg shouted. “We have to win back our young people!”
The 24-year-old Harvard graduate cited some uncomfortable truths from the past election. There was a 20-point swing to the right among voters under the age of 30, Hogg said.
“We must show our young people we give a damn about them,” Hogg said.
Hogg will share vice chair duties with Malcolm Kenyatta, a Pennsylvania state representative.
Along with his progressive activism, Hogg has another, more dubious, claim to fame.
He elevated the status of a Georgia woman named Marjorie Taylor Greene when she harassed him over gun control on the street outside the U.S. Capitol.
Greene went on to get elected to Congress and her flare for theatrics has made her one of the more recognized MAGA politicians.
