High Five! My Hollywood Pride Back for Fifth Year | WATCH

Any Pride anywhere is important. But My Hollywood Pride in Hollywood is more. It is a celebration of acceptance. Official acceptance. For a fifth year in a row, the city has achieved a perfect 100 score on HRC’s Municipal Equality Index.

“We are part of a community that’s not known for having an LGBTQ presence,” MHP co-chair Jeff Oliverio said during an appearance on The FayWhat?! Show.

The MHP team found that the LGBTQ community was a revelation to the city’s workforce. “The business community and local government didn’t realize this community existed. Now we’ve given a voice to community and have some sway with the government. They’re very supportive of this Pride.”

The main event on Saturday is from 1-10 p.m. and is in a new location. The party is moving to Arts Park @ Young Circle. MHP has always been more of a community event, with a more family feel (as opposed to the more raucous Prides of Miami Beach or Wilton Manors).

Families, both LGBTQ and allies, are welcomed. This year’s MHP will have more youth/family activities. The MHP team is partnered with agencies including Big Pride (Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward), SunServe Youth Services, Safe Schools South Florida and more.

“We’re doing art projects, scavenger hunts. We’re gonna have all kinds of fun things, real things for kids to do and feel at home.”

The weekend kicks off with the VIP Kickoff & Guitar Lighting on Friday at 7 p.m. hosted by FayWhat?!. This will be the first time the Hard Rock will light the iconic guitar for MHP.

The event is a two weekend event. Last weekend was the Pride 100 Brunch and Queer Comedy night.
