The Fort Lauderdale City Commission has recognized Pride month. Here’s the full resolution.
In Recognition of LGBTO+ PRIDE MONTH
June 2023 WHEREAS. all people regardless of age, gender identity, race, color, religion, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation. or physical challenges have the right to be treated on the basis of their intrinsic value as human beings; and WHEREAS, June marks the annual celebration of LGBTO+ pride, and we applaud the resilience of the community and the progress that has been made to advance acceptance and equality for all; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Lauderdale has a long-standing tradition of upholding the dignity of the individual, supporting legal equality and fair treatment for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. and ensuring that acts of discrimination and hatred will not be tolerated and WHEREAS, Fort Lauderdale is privileged to be home to three of the world's historic LGBTO+ institutions: The World AIDS Museum, the only museum in existence dedicated to telling the story of the disease; the Stonewall National Museum and Archives, the largest LGBTQ+ circulating library in the United States; and the Sunshine Cathedral, one of America's largest Metropolitan Community Church congregations; and WHEREAS, the City is proud to welcome more than 1.3 million LGBTQ+ supporters from around the globe each year, making this City a prime international LGBTQ+ destination while providing worldwide exposure to hundreds of LGBTQ+ businesses and tourism in South Florida: and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Lauderdale proudly reaffirms its commitment to protecting and respecting the rights of every resident, business owner, student, and visitor who is a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, as City Commissioners of the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2023 as LGBTO+ PRIDE MONTH in the City of Fort Lauderdale and we encourage all people in our community to join in celebrating equity, diversity and promoting inclusion and equal protection under the law, and we further encourage people to join us in eliminating discriminatory policies and practices toward any culture, race, or group.
