Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis testified on Friday that he is the victim of domestic violence. He accused his on-and-off partner Daniel “Danny” Curran of attacking him.
“This past weekend he threw me to the ground,” Trantalis testified over videolink from a car. Curran was arrested on Wednesday. He was in court Friday, Nov. 7, for a bond hearing. Curran’s charged with battery of a person older than 65 and contempt for violating a previous protection order. Bond was set at $6,000 and Curran is ordered to have no contact with Trantalis.
Despite the previous protection order, Trantalis testified that he appeared to reconcile with Curran in order to get him help.
“I thought maybe there was some way to rehabilitate Danny by trying to reconnect and hopefully steer him into counseling and mental health treatment. And I failed at that.”
The pair have dated much of this year, traveling to places ranging from Texas to Europe. Curran’s Facebook page shows him with Trantalis at the Eiffel Tower and the couple at a dinner.
On Nov. 4, after the alleged incident, Curran posted a picture of them looking happy at a dinner. That follows a post from Sunday where they posed at the boat show.
On Aug. 27, Curran posted a picture of him proposing to Trantalis on the plaza in front of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. There was no locator or caption, but many left their congratulations on the post.
Trantalis’ Facebook accounts do not appear to show any photos with Curran.
