When Black II Broadway held its amazing June show with special guest star Jennifer Holliday everyone was thrilled. When she sang And I Am Telling You, the crowd was wrapped around her little finger. Other local performers were on their game and the night was, from an artistic point of view, an unqualified success.
The problems came after. Many performers, vendors, the tech team, and others, are still awaiting payment. And they are blaming Terry Dyer. He says last minute sponsorship issues meant not enough money was raised to cover expenses.
On social media, he spread the blame around, saying, “It was a collaborative effort produced by Black II Broadway LLC, whose three founding principals and producers are Lenora Jaye Entertainment LLC, Antonio Edwards Entertainment LLC, and Terry Dyer Consulting LLC.
All three partners were actively involved in planning, fundraising, sponsorship development, production, and decisions throughout the entire process.”
Lenora Jaye responded on social saying monies went into Dyer’s business or consulting company’s accounts. She also suggests legal action is being discussed.
This Wednesday, Aug. 12, Matthew Darren and D-Rock Productions (his production company) are holding a benefit show at The Foundry Theater in Wilton Manors. The goal is to make about $9,500, which would be enough to get everyone paid.
