Some people measure success by wealth and accomplishments. Others discover that life’s greatest rewards come from the lives they touch.
For legendary Wilton Manors real estate professional Jimmy Cunningham, success means giving back, loving unconditionally, and leaving the world better than he found it.
But behind his extraordinary achievements lies a deeply personal journey of rejection, perseverance, and ultimately, love.
Born in Iowa and raised in New Jersey, Jimmy grew up in a disciplined household where success was expected. His father demanded excellence but struggled to accept his son’s homosexuality.
Despite graduating from UNC Chapel Hill and building an impressive career, Jimmy never received the acceptance he desperately wanted. Their relationship ended in 1995, without reconciliation.
Those emotional wounds marked difficult years. Jimmy acknowledges struggling with alcohol before finding recovery, renewed purpose, and personal strength.
His mother remained a loving, accepting presence throughout his life until her passing in 2023.
Professionally, Jimmy’s determination became legendary.
Beginning at Dun & Bradstreet in New York City, he quickly advanced into management, enjoying a successful decade-long corporate career.
After relocating to Fort Lauderdale, he reinvented himself, establishing Jimmy Cunningham Party Staffing Services, a thriving catering and event business.
Around 2010, he entered real estate, building an extraordinary reputation through relentless determination, professionalism, and exceptional client relationships.
“I have drive, and I don’t think you can teach drive,” Jimmy explained.
Yet his greatest accomplishments extend beyond business.
Inspired by successful philanthropists, Jimmy dreamed of someday helping others. Today, he generously supports The Pride Center, Latinos Salud, Our Fund Foundation, and numerous community organizations.
He also created community appreciation events connecting residents with approximately 18 nonprofits, demonstrating that Wilton Manors represents compassion and service far beyond its nightlife.
Following his mother’s passing, Jimmy discovered unexpected love in Medellín, Colombia, meeting Carlos Cavadia.
Their relationship brought renewed happiness and purpose. Jimmy purchased a home in Colombia, and helping Carlos achieve his dreams has become central to his future.
Jimmy remains deeply committed to Our Fund Foundation and its mission of supporting LGBTQ philanthropy for generations to come. His vision for his legacy now embraces both continuing his generosity toward the community he loves and providing Carlos with opportunities to build a wonderful future.
From childhood rejection to professional triumph, from personal struggles to discovering love, Jimmy’s journey reminds us that adversity need not define our destiny.
His generosity, extraordinary work ethic, and compassion have enriched countless lives.
Jimmy Cunningham represents the very best of Wilton Manors.
Perhaps his greatest achievement isn’t the wealth he has earned, but the love he shares and the lives he continues changing.
Wilton Manors is extraordinarily fortunate and truly blessed to call Jimmy Cunningham one of our own.
