DECADES OF DIVAS
Key West’s annual Womenfest is back with five sun-soaked days of connection, empowerment, and summer fun. Set for Sept. 3-7. This year’s theme, “Decades of Divas,” pays tribute to the queens who’ve ruled our radios, hearts, and history books. For more than 20 years, Womenfest has been a tradition in the Florida Keys, bringing thousands of lesbians, bisexual, queer women, trans women, and allies together to one of the most LGBTQ inclusive destinations in the world, where the “One Human Family” motto is embraced 365 days a year. This year’s lineup includes poolside parties, retro proms, sunset cruises, art, poetry, and … Jell-O wrestling. Visit GayKeyWestFL.com for tickets, travel info, and a full schedule.
HEAVENS TO BETSY
The Betsy Hotel on Ocean Dr. has long been revered as a cultural hub for the arts in Miami Beach. In a neighborhood more often associated with nightlife, The Betsy is quietly redefining what’s possible in South Beach through its monthly Opera on the Terrace series, now in its 11th year. The 30-minute pop-up performances that take place on the fourth Saturday of every month have become a beloved staple in the community. Produced in partnership with the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival, a local nonprofit providing affordable, world-class musical instruction and performance experiences to young artists in South Florida, The Betsy curates performances of classic opera solos, operettas, Broadway, and other classic tunes. The artists are rising stars and alumni of the Festival’s acclaimed training program, and bring world-class vocals to Miami Beach’s streets, echoing opera across one of America’s most recognized cultural corridors. With this series, The Betsy is doing more than keeping opera alive. It’s making it accessible, approachable, and unforgettable.
THE HOUSE OF USHER
The Kravis Center is seeking new volunteers, says Volunteer Coordinator Karole Cooney. “While many volunteers have been with us since opening night, we are now seeking applicants to join the ranks and become an integral part of this vibrant theatre.”
Volunteer opportunities are available in hospitality and ushering. To become an usher, applicants must complete a training course about Kravis Center operations. The course covers emergency evacuations, seating procedures, show protocols, and customer service skills. New volunteer orientations will be held on Sept. 15 and Sept. 25. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer must complete an application at kravis.org/volunteer.
