There is something truly magical about New York Comic Con, especially when you are someone who has spent a lifetime falling in love with books, movies, unforgettable characters and the communities that bring them to life.
This year's celebration was particularly special as NYCC marked its 20th anniversary, filling the Javits Center and surrounding New York City with incredible experiences, creativity and plenty of surprises.
As a journalist, educator and lifelong pop culture enthusiast, returning to Comic Con always feels like coming home to a community that understands why stories matter so much.
From stepping into the world of The Hunger Games to celebrating horror with Jason Voorhees and rediscovering the childhood joy of Tamagotchi, NYCC 2026 delivered a wonderful combination of excitement, nostalgia and memories I will treasure.
The Hunger Games: A Return to Panem
One of my absolute favorite experiences was stepping into Lionsgate's immersive activation celebrating the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
Located across from the Javits Center, the experience transported visitors into Panem through a District 12-inspired setting, striking floral displays, interactive photo opportunities and a Caesar Flickerman-inspired stage.
As someone who has loved Suzanne Collins' books and the films for years, this series holds a particularly special place in my heart because of its powerful messages about courage, identity, sacrifice and finding your voice. The experience became even more unforgettable when I had the opportunity to meet cast members Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang and Iris Apatow, who signed my movie poster!
Sharing the afternoon with my dear and close friend and talented photographer Sharma Rodriguez made the memory even sweeter.
The upcoming film follows a young Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, taking audiences back 24 years before the original story.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film arrives in theaters November 20, 2026. I am incredibly thankful to Josh Grijalva, THE MRKT, Lionsgate and everyone involved for allowing me to experience a world that has meant so much to me as both a reader and storyteller.
PBR x Jason: A Killer Celebration of Horror
Of course, what would Comic Con be without a little horror? One of the most entertaining invitations during my NYCC adventures was Pabst Blue Ribbon's collaboration with Jason Voorhees, bringing the legendary Friday the 13th franchise into the festivities with a themed trivia night on October 8.
The PBR x Jason event celebrated the wonderfully spooky side of pop culture with three rounds of horror-inspired trivia, opportunities to win limited-edition merchandise and a lively atmosphere perfect for fans who love a good scare.
There is something especially fun about seeing an iconic horror character become part of a shared fan experience, and this collaboration embraced the playful side of a franchise that has terrified audiences for generations.
From the themed presentation to the excitement surrounding the trivia competition, the evening was another reminder of why I love covering events that bring people together through their favorite movies and characters. A special thank-you to Jessica Holley and the team at Infamous PR for the invitation and for helping make my NYCC celebration even more memorable.
Tamagotchi: A Little Nostalgia and a Lot of Happiness
Another wonderful highlight was reconnecting with a little piece of childhood nostalgia through Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America's Tamagotchi showcase at Booth 2619 inside the Javits Center.
If you grew up loving those adorable virtual pets, you know exactly why seeing Tamagotchi at New York Comic Con feels like such a treat! There is something irresistible about the colorful designs, playful personalities and memories of caring for a tiny digital companion that somehow became such a big part of our lives.
The showcase offered fans an opportunity to explore the latest Tamagotchi releases, discover surprises and celebrate a brand that continues to connect generations of collectors and pop culture lovers.
I have always appreciated how something so small can carry so many wonderful memories, and seeing Tamagotchi continue to evolve while maintaining its nostalgic charm brought a smile to my face. A heartfelt thank-you to Abbey Rivers and Beacon Media
Group for the invitation and for celebrating the joy of collectibles and the fandoms that make Comic Con so special.
Twenty Years of Stories, Community and Connection
What made New York Comic Con's 20th anniversary so meaningful was not simply the incredible activations or the opportunity to meet talented people, but the reminder that fandom is ultimately about connection.
Whether we are celebrating a favorite childhood collectible, cheering for a beloved literary character or laughing through a horror-themed evening, these experiences give us opportunities to share pieces of ourselves with others.
As someone whose life revolves around storytelling, I am continually inspired by the passion and creativity of the people who make these worlds possible.
I returned home from New York feeling thankful for the press invitations, the friendships, the experiences and the chance to celebrate the stories that have shaped so many chapters of my life.
Here's to another 20 years of imagination, community and unforgettable Comic Con adventures!
