Following her recent induction into Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library’s “Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes” exhibit, renowned singer-songwriter Janis Ian is back at the Museum for a screening of her documentary film, “Janis Ian: Breaking Silence” as well as conversation and audience Q&A Sunday, April 26 at 5 p.m. as part of Wilton Women’s Week and presented by Stonewall National Women’s Fund.
It’s a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the most influential voices in music, storytelling, and LGBTQ history.
Stonewall director, Robert Kesten said, “People like Janis foster positive change. Despite intense societal pushback throughout her life, she persevered, cementing herself as a fighter and icon in the LGBTQ+ and women's communities. We look forward to what will surely be a sold-out event.”
Hair Hopper
If Edna Turnblad looks a little familiar at Slow Burn’s production of Hairspray, opening April 11 at The Broward Center, it’s because she’s being played by Eric Swanson, aka Miss Bouvèé. I’m sure all her fans will get a kick seeing the Divine Miss B in her groovy 1960s regalia (and a house dress!). You can't stop the beat in this big and bold musical about one girl's inspiring dream of dancing. The winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and tuneful songs.
