Congrats to Island City Stage! (ICS) It received three Carbonell nominations for “Ruthless” including Lindsey Corey for outstanding performance in a lead role, David Hart for sound design, and Andy Rogow for direction, as well as two for “Everything Beautiful Happens at Night” for outstanding performance in a lead role for Laura Turnbull and Bong Redila for his illustrations.
Additionally, Ardean Landhuis was nominated for scenic design for “The Little Foxes.” Little wonder that ICS is also receiving the Bill von Maurer Award for Theatrical Excellence honoring a theatre company that exemplifies excellence for the totality of its programming: productions, educational outreach, developmental programs, and audiences served.

The South Florida Pride Concert Band will take the audience on an evocative musical journey through rain, rivers, oceans, and the spirit of exploration with “Waves and Wanderers” on Saturday, Nov. 7, at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale. In “Waves and Wanderers,” water becomes both landscape and storyteller as the South Florida Pride Concert Band explores music inspired by the power, beauty, and mystery of the natural world. IT’S ALL GREEK TO ME
The South Florida Greek Film Festival returns Oct. 9-18. It is produced by the Hellenic Cultural Society of South Florida, under the auspices of the Consulate General of Greece in Tampa. The festival will present feature films, documentaries and shorts from Greece, Cyprus, and the diaspora. Among the films being presented is “Patty Is Such a Girly Name,” which follows a young judo athlete pursuing her dream of reaching the Olympics while also navigating questions of sexuality and identity. The festival will also host an evening with hitmaker to the stars Desmond Child, exploring his music and his connection to Greece. Latinos Salud’s annual Hispanic Heritage Food Bazaar will take place on Oct. 23, starting at 6 p.m. in the agency’s parking lot on 26th St. Guests will act as judges, giving out awards for best décor and, of course, food. General admission is $20 and includes food, soft drinks and two drink coupons. The $50 VIP gets you in half an hour earlier and an extra drink coupon.

The Eagle in Wilton Manors hosts the 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off, benefiting the Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida (GMCSF) on Sunday, Nov. 8. Steven Crespo, a tenor with GMCSF, created this event to give back to the community during his year as Mr. Eagle in 2024.
This fundraiser arrives at a critical moment. GMCSF has lost nearly $90,000 in annual government funding. Every dollar raised at this cook-off helps close that gap and keeps the chorus singing for the community that needs it most.
