Brévo! Theatre’s Luv No Limit, a “luvrz ballad” is the second installment in the award-winning FOR COLORED BOYZ choreopoem series, running through Feb. 15 at the HIVE Black Box Theater in Pompano Beach.

It’s a raw, sensual exploration of love, loss, and identity, set in Houston, Texas. In the play, Antwan, a Black artist, and activist grieving the death of Tyre Nichols, and Ramón, a Houston police detective hiding his badge behind tenderness and desire meet by chance, which deepens into love, secrets surface and trust fractures. Guided by four personified emotions — Love, Fear, Passion, and Joy — this poignant choreopoem examines racial trauma, Black queer intimacy, and the question at its heart: can love survive betrayal, and can we love out loud despite our deepest fears?

Brevo also has a series of staged readings coming up, with free admission. Freshly Rooted is a workshop production, Feb. 10 at Sandrell Rivers Theater, and Feb. 11 at The HIVE Black Box Theater. The readings include, The Otha Amerikkka, a choreopoem inspired by a Martin Luther King Jr. lecture. The other pieces in the staged reading include F*** Around And Find Out, which dissects the racial and gender divides in voting, and 8:46, creates a tapestry of voices that reflect the complex realities of race, privilege, and trauma in the aftermath of 9/11. For tickets and more information about any of these shows, go to BrevoTheatre.org.
