Zoetic Stage closes out its 16th anniversary season with Moses, a mesmerizing one-man play. Opening in the Arsht’s Carnival Theatre and running through May 17, the play focuses on one night in the Bronx, when a man loses everyone and everything he loves. Filled with remorse, he begs God, “You forget about me, and I'll forget about you?” But God has other plans.

“Playwright Michele Lowe has written a magnificent tale of a man who loses everything and is set upon a journey of identity, forgiveness, and hope. I know Moses will be a theatrical event bringing the community together by a tour de force performance balanced with empathy, pathos, and humor,” Zoetic Stage artistic director Stuart Meltzer says.

NEW TITLE, NEW EMOTIONS

After sold-out runs in South Florida and New York City, and widespread critical acclaim, Kutumba Theatre has reimagined and revived its award-winning hit Baby Girl, now retitled Velvet Green Summer to reflect the play’s expanded themes and vibrant new life at Empire Stage. The original comedy, a coming-of-age, coming-out story is inspired by true events. Directed by Kim Ehly, the play celebrates the full spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community while exploring identity, belonging, and the adoptee experience. Velvet Green Summer runs at the Empire Stage from May 7 through 24. For tickets and more information, go to EmpireStage.com, or call 954-646-1000.

WINK, WINK

Thinking Cap Theatre launches its 2026–2027 season with the subversive comedy, Wink. The play, by Jen Silverman (Broadway’s The Roommate with Mia Farrow and Patti LuPone), peels back the fragile layers of modern relationships. Wink opens May 15 for a limited run through May 26 at the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center. In a bold return to its roots, Thinking Cap presents this production as an intimate, conceptual experience with only 50 tickets available per performance.  Audiences will be seated onstage with the cast and fully immersed in the action. SUPERSIZE SURPRISE

The South Florida Pride Concert Band’s season-concluding concert on May 2 at The Parker will be a supersized surprise. The oldest LGBTQ arts organization in the state of Florida is celebrating 40 years of music, community and pride with an anniversary performance, The XL Concert: 40 Years of Musical Excellence. For one night, audiences will be taken on a high-energy musical journey spanning four decades of standout moments from the band’s history, brought to life by special guest performers and multiple ensembles.

The milestone concert will feature appearances by founding band members, a special performance by the FLoatarama High School Soloist Competition winner, and feature sets by the South Florida Pride Jazz Band and South Florida Pride Steel Band.

The evening will also pay special homage to Dan Bassett, who for the past 20 years has served as the band’s artistic director and helped elevate the nonprofit to new heights. During the concert, Bassett will ceremoniously pass the baton to incoming artistic director Sara Cowley, an accomplished musician and longtime member of the organization who will lead the band into its next chapter.

“Reaching 40 years is an extraordinary milestone for our organization and our community,” said Bassett. “The XL Concert is both a celebration and a poignant retrospective of our history as we look toward the future. Sharing the stage with founding members, our jazz and steel bands, and outstanding young musicians while passing the baton to new leadership will make this a powerful and emotional night of music and pride.”

The XL Concert honors the band’s impact as a cornerstone of South Florida’s cultural and community landscape. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $45. To purchase tickets, or for more information, go to ParkerPlayhouse.com
