When the nonprofit agency first opened in 2009 they had just one program: safer sex workshops for young gay Latinos.
Today, Latinos Salud has grown into the most community-centered clinic in the region, serving not just gay Latinos but the entire LGBT community of South Florida. In addition to their core services (HIV testing and STD screening) Latinos Salud provides free PrEP initiation and prescriptions, STD treatment, Ryan White case management, vaccination, primary care and even HIV healthcare.
"This recognition fills us with affirmation," said Executive Director, Dr Stephen Fallon.
Recognizing that resilience and community are central to health, the agency's Health & Culture program and its Youth Services program offer 100 free community events each year, bringing members to kayak on the intracoastal, learn to dance in heels, attend a play, belt out karaoke songs, make a difference at a beach clean-up, painting or sculpting classes. Empowering the next generation, the clinic's Health & Support Services Pride Scholarships award $2,500 to $5,000 for five scholars each year.
Latinos Salud’s website makes it easy to make an appointment, or to check out their upcoming events. They'll take your insurance, and if you don't have it, they provide their services at no cost. They even pay the monthly health insurance premiums for those in greatest financial need.
