As rainbow crosswalks disappear in the shadow of tyranny, everything else is turning rainbow. That’s the case in Wilton Manors.
The Wilton Drive Improvement District (WDID) unveiled a new set of rainbow-colored bike racks. They sit on the Hunters corner of NE 6th Ave. and Wilton Drive in the heart of the city.
The new art display comes after Republican officials in Washington, D.C. and Tallahassee ordered rainbow crosswalks removed because of “safety concerns.” There are no records of any rainbow crosswalk causing accidents.
Local artist and WDID member Claudia Castillo told The Gazette, “The project reflects WDID’s ongoing mission to enhance The Drive with improvements that support local businesses, and reinforce the inclusive, safe and tourist destination on The Drive.”
Wilton Manors already has the rainbow bridge linking the city to Fort Lauderdale. Many were, and still are, worried it could be targeted. However, we’ve not received any reports that it is being eyed for elimination.
Rainbow painted parking meters line Wilton Drive as well.
