Wilton Manors continues to support the organizations that support the community. During an unusually short meeting on Jan. 27, they voted to increase the city’s donation to the Early Learning Coalition of Broward County (ELC) from the proposed amount of $3,100 to $4,240. This matches the donation they made last year.
According to city documents, the ELC is “designated by the Florida Department of Education as the administrator of all publicly funded early childhood care and education programs in Broward County. During the previous fiscal year, the ELC provided subsidized childcare services to 61 Wilton Manors resident children, totaling $245,005. In addition, the ELC subsidized four small business childcare centers operating within the City, with total funding of $675,590.”
Commissioner Don D’Arminio made the motion to raise the city’s contribution to last year’s amount.
“They’ve given more than $900,000 directly to our city, so I’d like to give them the additional [money].”
