Scott Newton has been reelected as mayor for Wilton Manors. Early returns Tuesday night made it clear he was cruising to another two-year term.
With more than 50% of the vote in, he had 70%, well ahead of challengers Mark Beigay and Mike Sansevero.
Newton held a party at Pub On the Drive Tuesday night. During the celebration, he told OutSFL, “I thank the community because they know I’m here for all of us. I want to focus on positivity and move forward."
He said he was running for a final term to oversee projects that will impact the city for decades, including sewer upgrades and development including a new hotel.
Newton has been in elected office for 20 years. Sansevero, who has about 20% of the vote, ran primarily as a change agent. Beigay is a newcomer to the city and was at a severe disadvantage when it came to name recognition.
