  • Correction: this story originally stated the day of the election is Nov. 8. That is incorrect - it’s Nov. 5. We regret the error.

With less than three months before voters head to the polls, there are many close races in South Florida and Broward County. The race to Wilton Manors’ mayor is not one of them.

A new survey by The Gazette via Survey Monkey shows incumbent Scott Newton with a healthy lead.

Fifty-six percent of respondents say they support Newton. He faces two opponents; Mike Sansevero and Mark Beigay, who have 23% and 2%, respectively. Eighteen percent are undecided.

The results mirror each campaign’s financial health. Second quarter financial disclosures show Newton as the top frontrunner. He collected $7,125 for the period between April 1 and June 30. Sansevero reported $390 in contributions plus $2,000 in loans he made to himself. Beigay shows only $468, all loans he made to himself.

The Gazette did not conduct surveys on city commission races, as incumbents Mike Bracchi and Chris Caputo are running unopposed.

Election day is Nov. 5.

The Gazette surveyed 195 people from July 31 to Aug. 6 using SurveyMonkey.
