One LGBTQ group is taking extra steps toward inclusivity — literally.
Front Runners and Walkers of Fort Lauderdale is hosting a mixer on Sept. 5 to give active women the opportunity to meet the group and mingle with one another.
FRWFL is an LGBTQ running and walking group that offers activities for people of all abilities, its website reads.
The free Women Runners Mixer event will take place at a local bar called Apartment 9F in Wilton Manors. It was designed to provide a safe space for those who feel excluded from male-dominated LGBTQ events.
“We know that LGBTQ events in South Florida tend to be more male-centric, and we want to change that,” Gabriel Ferwalt, diversity coordinator for FRWFL, said. “We want everyone, no matter gender, sexual orientation or ethnicity to feel welcome.”
Aside from socializing, guests can expect appetizers, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and half price happy hour drinks at the 7-9 p.m. event. There will also be a raffle drawing for a $100 gift card.
Ferwalt said the event is a casual social opportunity open to people of all walks of life.
“We welcome you whether you’re a past or current member of Front Runners or just looking to meet other active women,” he said.
