LGBTQ Tennis Club Hosting Annual Tournament in February

  • UPDATED on Oct. 9: this story was correct when it appeared in the Oct. 3 edition of OutSFL but because there a delay with posting it online it was out of date and certain parts needed to be updated, such as registration for the event maxed out on the first day. We regret any confusion this may have caused.

You’ll probably need to do a little more work than watching Zendaya in “Challengers” to prepare for South Florida’s Tennis Club’s (SFTC) next tournament.

The organization is hosting its annual Clay Court Classic in Fort Lauderdale next year over President’s Day weekend in February. Registration opened on Oct. 5 but closed the same day after maxing out.

SFTC is a nonprofit organization that coordinates tennis activities for LGBTQ players and allies of all skill levels, according to its website.

The Clay Court Classic, held at the Lauderdale Tennis Club, is its biggest event of the year, as it usually draws over 300 players from around the world.

The tournament will host singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches. Players will be allowed to compete in a maximum of two categories, according to the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) website. GLTA is a not-for-profit organization that sanctions the Clay Court Classic.
