“Do something.”
That’s what former First Lady Michelle Obama urged the many millions of people who watched her rousing speech at the Democratic National Convention this summer.
Do something. Those words – that call to action – should resonate with us all.
In Florida, critical rights are at stake with Amendments 3 and 4, which aim to expand access to abortion and legalize recreational marijuana.
Currently, Florida imposes a Draconian six-week ban on abortion. Most women don’t even know they’re pregnant by that point. This law is a travesty and must be overturned.
Regarding marijuana, far too many individuals have been branded as criminals for using a substance that some argue poses fewer risks than alcohol.
Taken together, these amendments give Floridians more rights and freedoms.
But it is up to us to vote for them. The first step to doing that is making sure we are registered to vote. If not, visit registertovoteflorida.gov. The deadline is October 7. Check your registration status now — time is short. Don’t wait.
As Obama said, we have to “make sure every single person we know is registered and has a voting plan.”
That includes each of us.
