The Box Gallery in West Palm Beach has moved to a new location. Owner, artist and curator Rolando Chang Barrero has gathered diverse pieces of art from multiple LGBTQ artists to showcase at the Grand Opening on Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. The exhibit, entitled “Florida! See it Like a Native,” was curated by a panel of local judges.
The Box Gallery focuses on raising the voices of LGBTQ people through their art. Previously located just up the road from its new location, the gallery has moved to a better space with more parking access and better visibility. The grand opening will be a cocktail style event with a program detailing the art being displayed.
“...Art enthusiasts and members of the LGBTQ+ community will gather to celebrate diversity, creativity, and inclusion,” said Barrero in a press release. “Well into my second decade as an LGBTQA+ business owner, I couldn't be any happier. Life is a wonderful series of transitions!”
The three-person selection jury includes Robert Adams, an Editorial Director at Passport Magazine, Jessica Ransom, Director of Artistic Services for the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, and Arden Sherman, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Norton Museum in West Palm Beach. Each panelist brings their own unique perspective to art curation.
The First Lady of the Palm Beaches, Melissa St. John, will also be performing for the opening. St. John is a renowned drag performer in Palm Beach County, headlining many local events and performing at events across South Florida, including Compass Community Center’s Palm Beach Pride.
Tickets to the event range from $10-$40 and can be purchased from Eventbrite. More information on the event can be seen on the gallery’s blog. The Box Gallery’s new location is 809 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida 33405.
