The race for mayor of Lake Worth Beach is still undecided because no candidate got more than 50% during the March 19 election. Now straight ally Betty Resch and Andy Amoroso, a gay man, head to a run-off election April 2.
Resch came so close with 48% while Amoroso got 32%.
"I think it would be in the best interest of the city for Andy to concede, to let us get back to work," Resch told WPBF. "Almost 50% of the voters voted for me. It’s a big gap between him and I and I just think for the good of the city, to get us working back together, to get back to unifying and not being divisive and saving some money for the city, I think it would be the right thing to do."
Amoroso has no plans to concede.
"It’s not an option based on my supporters," Amoroso told WPBF. "[At] our watch party, it was asked, and the supporters said, ‘Absolutely not.’ They’re in it for the fight and the long haul, and it will be a long two weeks, but we can make it happen."
Another out candidate, Alex Cull, came in third place with 14% and a fourth candidate, William Joseph, got 6%. Joseph has now endorsed Resch. The Palm Beach Human Rights Council also endorsed Resch.
