It has certainly been an interesting time since our New Student Edition in August.
For the first time ever, OutFAU did not publish a monthly issue during the school year. We pushed some stories online, but Volume Four, September 2025, will never exist. News may be free to read, but it is certainly not free to produce. That being said, I’m thrilled to share some good news.
PRISM, with funding from The Our Fund Foundation, has sponsored OutFAU for eight issues. PRISM works to expand access to LGBTQ-inclusive education and sexual health resources for youth across South Florida. Their goal is simple and powerful: help everyone feel included, across race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The Our Fund Foundation promotes philanthropy, stewards long-term investments, and makes grants to improve the lives of LGBTQ people in South Florida. On behalf of our entire team, thank you to PRISM and Our Fund Foundation!
A lot has happened this past month. We could fill an entire semester’s worth of issues with news, but the team and I have decided to focus on something we believe is paramount to every Owl and every person in the United States of America: the First Amendment and its five fundamental freedoms. Religion. Speech. Press. Assembly. Petition. These rights touch daily life — practicing your faith or none at all; posting your opinion online or speaking at a town meeting; journalists investigating city hall; marching in a park; and signing an online petition or emailing your representative. Dive in, learn something new, and enjoy this special issue of OutFAU!
