Brat summer may be over but fall is just beginning, welcome back students.

Now you may be wondering, what exactly is brat summer? It’s a cultural phenomenon based on Charli xcx’s album “brat” that has filled our social media feeds with lime green. Former president Barack Obama added the song “365” to his summer playlist, and even Kamala Harris got in on the trend.

Brat summer was about embracing our rebellious nature, challenging the status quo, and unapologetically being ourselves. You can have a brat summer coming home from the club at 5 a.m. with smeared eyeliner or asleep by 10 p.m. with a good book - it’s a state of mind.

Brat summer isn’t just about fun and freedom - it’s also about activism and advocacy. With the upcoming election, we all have the opportunity to make our voices heard. The political climate has been charged not only in Florida but across the country. Stay tuned for our election issue in October.

Enjoy our welcome to a new school year. Let’s embrace our inner brats and make this year truly ours.
