Some candidates will do anything to grab power, and Anne Gerwig is one of them.
Gerwig, running as a Republican for House District 93, is challenging Democratic incumbent Katherine Waldron. Her campaign ads are all over TV, and while negative campaigning is common in modern politics, Gerwig has resorted to fearmongering by scapegoating the transgender community.
The trans community, already under immense scrutiny, is small but deserves our support and protection — especially trans youth. They don’t need to be demonized or villainized for political gain.
In 2024 alone, there have been 658 anti-trans bills introduced across the nation. The community is already reeling from hate, exacerbated by disinformation spread by figures like former president Donald Trump.
Gerwig should be ashamed. As the Mayor of Wellington and a councilwoman, she once served her community well. She should be running on her accomplishments, not throwing the trans community under the bus.
Instead of leading with integrity, Gerwig has chosen to follow Trump’s example of targeting transgender people with lies and hate during this election cycle.
Do better, Anne.
For these reasons, we endorse Katherine Waldron.
