Jaco Pastorius Park will become Jaco Pastorius Biergarten this weekend for Oakland Park Oktoberfest.
Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, and continuing at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, German-style beer and food will fill stomachs while German music fills the air. The annual three-day party is presented by Funky Buddha.
Like the mega-parties of Munich, people can guzzle from their liter steins while watching lederhosen-clad performers Bavarian folk dancing with Auerhahn Schuhplattlers, singing courtesy of Eric Zawalich, and other traditional Oktoberfest entertainment. In addition to Bavarian pretzels, schnitzel, and sauerkraut, there will be amusement rides and other family friendly entertainment.
The highlight of the event is the annual Dachshund Dash, sponsored by Central Bark. The cutest weiner dogs in South Florida will, hopefully, race to glory… or they will be easily distracted and wander off to people they hope to have treats. Either way, it’s always a fun event.
Entry is $5, with children under 12 admitted for free, and the party will go on, rain or shine. Parking is very limited in the area, and everyone is encouraged to use ride-share.
