Scandals Saloon, the Wilton Manors bar known for its Sunday tea dance, is facing claims from some employees and former employees who say they are owed back pay. Real estate websites also list the property for sale for $2.5 million and describe it as a bank-owned foreclosure.
Attorney Tom Shanahan, speaking on behalf of Scandals, disputes the unpaid wage claims and says the foreclosure designation was a listing error.
People who say they are owed money began posting on social media last week and stand by their claims. Shanahan told OutSFL that the property was briefly listed for sale and that the real estate agent mistakenly marked it as a bank-owned foreclosure. The listings remained online as of deadline.
Shanahan says Scandals owns the business, building and property, and that there is no mortgage on the property.
Shanahan says management told him payroll was up to date. He says anyone who believes they are owed money should contact him directly.
Changing Hands
Charles Horton announced he has sold LIT in Wilton Manors and Le Boy in Fort Lauderdale. Both bars had been on the market for a couple of years. Horton has not announced the new owner’s name.
Horton says he hopes both bars will maintain a community focus under new management.
Horton also sold his home and is moving to Colombia.
Comeback in the Conch Republic
22&Co, a Key West bar affected by the closures involving Pride Holdings Group and AquaPlex, has reopened.
A social media post announcing the reopening included a photo of a sidewalk chalkboard that read, in part: “All that matters is we are back together as a family.”
