Wear your bell-bottoms and platform shoes with pride this weekend in Oakland Park. The city is holding their annual Pride celebration Friday, June 6, at Jaco Pastorius Park. The free event runs 6-10 p.m.

While there isn’t an official theme this year (it was Alice in Wonderland in 2024), organizers are putting out some definite disco vibes. The costume contest celebrates the iconic Studio 54, which dominated the NYC disco scene in the late ‘70s.

There are four costume categories: most creative look, best disco diva, fiercest king of the night, and best couple or group look. The winner of each category will get a $50 gift certificate.

DJ Itty Bitty will keep the mood fresh, while DJ Chris will host the main stage. Drag artists The Screaming Queens will perform.

There will be lots of fun sideshows including a magician, a juggler, face painting, a photo booth, a henna station, balloon twisting and more. Food trucks will roll in addition to the restaurants just outside the event space.

Organizers tell OutSFL that the process to get alcoholic beverages has been drastically changed. There will be three bars set up throughout the festival. Last year there was one spot with two lines, and each had about 50 people at any one time.

No coolers or weapons are allowed inside the Pride party. Dogs on leashes are allowed, but keep in mind the heat when deciding to bring Fido along. Also, children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
