The Florida Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists hosted its annual ceremony for its Sunshine State Awards August 25 at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale, where they observed a moment of silence for Norm Kent, co-founder and publisher of the South Florida Gay News.

Kent died in April after a battle with cancer. The Our Fund Foundation launched the Norm Kent LGBTQ Newsmaker Fund in his honor. Funds will be used for LGBTQ journalism, publishing and research.
